How do I find the elevation of a specific location?

What is an elevation profile?
Switch to the “Elevation profile A → B” tab and set two points. The tool samples the terrain at 61 points along the straight line between them and draws the cross-section: every hill and valley in between, plus the highest and lowest points and the total ascent and descent. Hover over the chart to read the elevation at any distance along the path.
How accurate is the elevation data?
Elevations come from the Copernicus GLO-90 global digital elevation model, which has roughly 90-metre horizontal resolution and typically a few metres of vertical accuracy on open terrain. It measures the ground surface, so it is a reliable estimate for hiking, drone, and planning purposes — but not a substitute for a survey in engineering work.
Is elevation the same as altitude?
In everyday use, elevation refers to the height of the ground above mean sea level, while altitude usually means the height of something above the ground or sea level — an aircraft's altitude, for example. This tool reports ground elevation: the height of the terrain itself at the point you choose.
